Panthaland: 7-7-7
CTC Magazine linked up with Tha Bum and Blue Panther to bring one of this summer's dopest art shows to the forefront. This wasn't just a normal
graffiti expo- it was gigantic. Over 75 graffiti artists traveled form around the globe to get down at Crash Mansion in L.A. on July 7th, 2007. The show was also blessed with live
performances by two of the sickest and most talented female emcees...Ladybug Mecca and Bahamadia.
One of the featured artists from the show was Family Soda. Described best to CTC as a cartoon dream on heroin, this guy's characters are on another level.
The colors are bright and Family Soda induces landscapes reminicent of a cool version of the Teletubbies. Comparable to, but on a different wavelength than artists like KAWS
and Barry McGee, you could very well see Family Soda inspired vinyl toys and clothing popping up in the near future. Quench your thirst with some
Family Soda.
It seems every art show that CTC Magazine covers, there is a new type of meduim that pops up. Street art has been constantly morphing and evolving in the US for over 30 years, and
CTC uncovered a new gem at this show with the work of streetsignartist. His work consists of stencil art coupled with florescent street signs.
The concept of drawing the attention to 'normal people' vs. graffiti kids out looking for the newest flavors on the block is nothing new, but streetsignartist takes it to a
new plateau by painting on signs that must be obeyed by the masses. Did I just see Louis Armstrong or The Bird blowing HFL on that sign? Turn left motherheller.
CTC Magazine featured artist in June '07, Tha Bum seems to be everywhere these days. Tha Bum got down in L.A. on 7-7-7, and displayed
some of his dope ass work inspired by the death of Kurt Cobain in April of 1994. There is no doubt about how Tha Bum interprets what happened on that tragic day, and his work will continue to fuel the legacy that Kurt left us.
I think Tha Bum would agree with us when we say..."hell Courtney Love."
No doubt, graffiti artists and canvas kids alike rocked the show. The highly anticipated Panthaland exceeded expectations in 2007, and we look forward to a blow-out in '08.
It is good to see that hip-hop's most frequently forgotten about element - graffiti - can bring coasts together and peeps from around the world to collab on a spectacular event
with a good vibe. Big-ups to Blue Panther for putting this first Panthaland show together- it was amazing.
